Yoga Stops Traffick

On Saturday 15 March, Morningside Shopping Centre together with GoYoga Jozi and Mysore Joburg initiative, hosted the charity event YOGA STOPS TRAFFICK. The aim of this groundbreaking global event, is to raise awareness about human trafficking, a crime that affects men, women and children around the world. As part of the victim’s rehabilitation program, yoga has allowed them to reclaim their bodies; build physical and mental strength, and restore a sense of peace, confidence and self-worth.

For the fifth amazing year, this one-day worldwide event unites yoga practitioners across the globe to take a stand against human trafficking. Thousands of individuals, yearly from Mysore Palace in India to the yoga studios of New York come together to raise awareness and financial support for Odanadi India- to support their work in the rescue, rehabilitation and reintegration of trafficking victims, exploitation and abuse, and educating and empowering vulnerable communities.

The 98 Participants at Morningside Shopping Centre brought their own mats and did 108 sun salutations and concluded with a short meditation. It took approximately two hours to complete. Participants enjoyed fresh coconut juice and each received a YOGA STOPS TRAFFICK T-shirt.

A total of R25 000.00 was raised and all donations and proceeds from the charity went to two local charitable organizations, The Nelson Mandela Childrens Fund and Anex.
